If you wear contact lenses chances are at some point you will get a contact lens infection. I have had contact lenses for over 18 years and up until recently only had one infection called pink eye and that was many years ago. However last summer, after I started working in a new office, I developed a bad irritation in my right eye. When I went to the local doctor he said it was an irritation and gave me a prescription for cortisone eye drops. He also said that if I used hot face cloths for three minutes twice a day it should go away on its own.
This infection was a pain in the butt and it is now six months later and I am still wearing my contact lenses for only 8 to 14 hours a day instead of keeping them in for over a week. I went to an Ophthalmologist and an Optometrist who both said it looked like a case of dry eye inflammation or belepharitis. This made sense since the new office had air conditioning and I never use eye lubricating drops so my eyeballs became dry and sore.
So make sure you clean and disinfect your hands with a good soap before handling your contact lenses and always follow your manufacture’s recommendations for cleaning storing and lubricating them.
